Scanned documents are large because every page is a photograph. This finds the JPEG images inside a PDF, re-encodes them at a quality and resolution you choose, and writes the file back out — typically the difference between a 20 MB scan and a 2 MB one. It runs entirely in your browser, so contracts and statements are not uploaded to a stranger’s server. Text-only PDFs are already compressed and will not shrink; the tool says so rather than pretending otherwise.
