About this tool

GitHub Flavored Markdown (GFM) adds features to plain Markdown — task lists, tables, code blocks and alert callouts — and it is worth checking how a document will render before you commit it. This previewer shows GFM live as you type, and adds writing metrics: word and character counts, line counts and an estimated reading time.

Previewing catches the formatting problems that only appear when rendered — a broken table, a task list that is not quite right, a code fence with the wrong language. The metrics are handy for READMEs, issues and documentation where length and reading time matter.

It runs in your browser, so your content is not uploaded. Use it to draft and check GitHub content, or as a general GFM editor with instant feedback.

Frequently asked questions

What is GitHub Flavored Markdown?
GitHub’s extended Markdown, which adds task lists, tables, fenced code blocks, alerts and more on top of standard Markdown. The previewer renders these live.
What metrics does it show?
Word count, character count, line count and estimated reading time, alongside the live preview.
Why preview before committing?
To catch rendering issues — broken tables, malformed task lists, wrong code-fence languages — before they appear in your repository.
Is my content uploaded?
No. The preview runs in your browser, so your Markdown stays on your device.
