About this tool

Every public IP address belongs to a block allocated to an organisation, and that allocation carries clues about the address: the country and often the city it maps to, the internet provider or hosting company that operates it, and the autonomous system number (ASN) that identifies its network on the global routing table. This tool takes any IPv4 or IPv6 address and reports those details so you can understand what is behind it.

It is a common step when reviewing server logs, tracing where a connection or a suspicious login came from, checking which provider hosts a service, or confirming the rough location tied to an address. Geolocation from an IP is an approximation — it reflects how addresses are allocated, not a device’s GPS — so treat the city as an estimate and the provider and ASN as the more dependable facts.

The lookup is stateless and does not log the addresses you check. Pair it with the proxy and VPN detector on this site when you need to know not just where an address sits but whether it belongs to a residential ISP or a datacentre, proxy or VPN.

Frequently asked questions

What information can an IP lookup reveal?
Typically the country and approximate city, the internet provider or hosting company, and the autonomous system number (ASN) that identifies the network. It describes the address’s allocation, not a device’s precise position.
How accurate is IP geolocation?
Country-level accuracy is usually high, but city-level results are estimates and can be wrong, sometimes by a lot. The provider and ASN are generally the most reliable pieces of information.
What is an ASN?
An Autonomous System Number identifies a network on the internet’s routing system. It tells you which organisation controls the range an address belongs to, which is useful for distinguishing ISPs, hosting providers and large platforms.
Can I look up an IPv6 address too?
Yes. The tool accepts both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and reports the same kind of location, provider and network details for each.
Are the addresses I check logged?
No. The lookup is stateless and privacy-safe — the addresses you enter are not retained.
