About this tool

Every social platform expects images at particular dimensions, and it will crop, letterbox or compress anything that does not fit — so a photo that looked right on your screen can end up with heads cut off in a header or blurred in a feed. Uploading an image at the platform’s exact pixel size avoids all of that: nothing is auto-cropped, and the platform re-compresses a correctly sized image far less aggressively. This tool crops and scales any picture to those specifications, with presets for the sizes people need most.

The built-in presets cover the common cases: YouTube thumbnails at 1280×720, X (Twitter) headers at 1500×500, Instagram square posts at 1080×1080 and Stories at 1080×1920, and Facebook banners. Pick a preset, position the crop over the part of the image that matters, and export — or set your own width and height for anything not listed. Because you control the crop, the important part of the picture stays in frame instead of being centre-cropped by the platform.

The whole thing runs in your browser: the image is processed on your own machine and never uploaded to us or anyone else, and its camera metadata — including any GPS location saved by a phone — is dropped in the process. That keeps a photo you are about to post from carrying where it was taken.

Frequently asked questions

What size should my social media images be?
The most-used sizes are: Instagram square post 1080×1080 and Story 1080×1920; YouTube thumbnail 1280×720; X (Twitter) header 1500×500; and a Facebook banner around 1200×630 to 820×312 depending on placement. This tool has presets for these, so you do not have to remember them.
Will resizing reduce the quality of my image?
Scaling a large image down to a platform’s size keeps it sharp — in fact it usually looks better than letting the platform resize it for you. Scaling a small image up cannot add detail it never had, so start from the highest-resolution original you have.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Cropping and resizing happen entirely in your browser; the file never leaves your device. As a side effect the export also strips the original’s metadata, including any GPS coordinates, so you are not publishing your location along with the picture.
Which image formats can I use?
Common web image formats — JPG, PNG and WebP — can be loaded and exported. For photos, JPG or WebP keeps the file small; for graphics with sharp edges or transparency, PNG is the safer choice.
